17 Feb – His film, “Asoya”, has been nominated for the Palme d’Or in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival. This movie, which tells the story of a young woman who is the target of the police for drug trafficking, had its premiere at the 2019 CPH Margiela-Ménil Festival, which is the first time that the festival has recognized South Korean cinema. The festival, which will be taking place every year, will see a lineup of more than 80 films from around the world when it opens May 7.
Daniel:NOT QUITE. You could think of “Butas 2” as the (over)rated and too popular “Asoya”. Both offer an innocent, and sometimes rather selfish outlook on a very complicated world. Like Asoya, it’s a tricky movie that doesn’t really add so much to our knowledge but it’s nevertheless an easy watch.
